Why would you see a hypnotherapist for weight loss, rather than a nutritional therapist?
And why would you come to see me rather than any other hypnotherapist?
For the simple reason that I’m both a hypnotherapist and a nutritional therapist.
This means that I can make sense of what you tell me and your habits. Then I can analyse them to see where your problems are coming from, which isn’t always obvious.
For example, you might be overeating for emotional reasons, but there might also be some patterns in your eating which are affecting you physically. So, if I can locate some of those I will absolutely tell you about them, and also the tweaks that might help you conquer them.
That will probably save you a lot of time and money and make losing weight much more effective for you.
So, back to emotional eating. I think of this as a kind of self-medication. It starts with unpleasant feelings inside you. When you eat sugary foods, it starts a process which causes calming chemicals to go to your brain. Then the unpleasant feelings calm down or go away for a bit. They may be replaced later on with feelings of guilt or shame about the eating, but at least you’re not stuck where you were. Plus you add in the habit of doing this, of calming yourself down with food, giving yourself that 'sugar high’, since I’d bet this isn’t the first time!
So those are the two things we need to deal with:

Whatever is causing the unpleasant feelings, whether it’s a current situation or something from the past. Then we need to deal with the habit of medicating yourself with sweet or starchy foods. (You might even binge on other things, but that’s fairly rare). If your feelings are from current stress, we need to turn that down and find you better ways of dealing with it. If they are from events in your past, we need to neutralise them and make the events no longer matter in your mind. And finally we need to interrupt your habits of responding to stress with food.
***Also, on a slightly different topic, I do offer gut-directed hypnotherapy in order to help with IBS and similar issues.
"Multiple well-controlled studies...have shown that gut-directed hypnotherapy improves gastrointestinal symptoms in people with IBS by 70-80% and these improvements are maintained in the long-term."***
