If you are not sleeping well, there are many people in a similar position these days.
In the old days an occasional client would come and see me for insomnia, but it was relatively rare. It has grown to be one of the most common issues which people contact me about.
So what is behind it?
Well, if you’re having trouble falling asleep, it’s usually anxiety-related, with your mind racing. That can then can lead to fear of not being able to fall asleep, which of course makes it worse.
Waking up in the night can be due to a variety of things. Usually, it’s that something has happened which tells your brain that it isn’t safe to be asleep, and that it needs to be alert all the time.
Not only is sleep our body’s way of recovering from the day and restoring our energy, but it’s also when we sleep that many systems of our body can be repaired and renewed. So it’s not just about being irritable during the day, good sleep also has a bearing on many aspects of your health. It’s really important to get it regulated better.
So, what do we have to do to get you sleeping soundly?
What it comes down to is getting your brain to understand that there is no danger now, even if there was at one time. Usually, we also have to work on the habit itself, since sleep is related to our internal rhythms.
If you consider that it takes a day to get over every hour of jet lag, then it’s not surprising that sleep patterns take a bit of time to turn around.
