Homeopathy

Use

If you come to me specifically for homeopathy that's what I'll use, as I studied it for four and a half years. If you have a condition which I think might be improved or resolved more quickly by combining it with another treatment I would suggest that, but ultimately it would be up to you.

History

Homeopathy has been around for a couple of hundred years. The name is derived from the ancient Greek terms 'homoios' which means 'similar' and 'pathos' which means 'suffering'.

The main principle behind it is the law of similars, which states that 'like cures like', hence the derivation of the name. A homeopath will select a medicine which stimulates the body to recognise disharmony in order to correct it. There are several thousand homeopathic remedies, out of which about two hundred are in day-to-day use.

Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, said that treatment should be gentle, rapid and permanent. That's still the goal.

Treatment

Homeopathy is not the same as herbalism, though homeopaths can and do use herbs in tinctures or tiny doses to support various organs and systems of the body. Treatment is usually in the form of  little white pills, though it can be given as drops or various other things.

Training

When I first became fascinated by homeopathy I signed up with Morley College in London, studying with Gloria Feenan. I then attended the London School of Classical Homeopathy for a year, followed by a year at the College of Practical Homeopathy, and rounded it off with two years at the Centre for Homeopathic Education. There's a lot to learn...

Most impressive experience from my own practice: Grief made bearable, recovery from food poisoning, unwanted emotional attachment resolved after a few doses.
